Launched as an avenue to give Nigerian businesses presence on the internet, Google?s Get Nigerian Businesses Online program has enabled over 25,000 SMEs build websites for free. The initiative was launched in September 2011 despite criticisms from a large number of web developers and designers in the Nigerian tech industry.

Taking GNBO a step further, Google will begin training 500 of these businesses in its ?Succeed Online? programme. Entrepreneurs will be taught how to manage their online presence, website listings, interact with customers via social media and how to take advantage of Google products such as YouTube, Google Apps and Insights for Search so they can take their businesses to the next level.

Succeed Online includes 13 training sessions which will be held between August and September this year in Lagos. Google hopes to extend the sessions to other locations soon.

Bunmi Banjo, Marketing Maanager, SME Products at Google Nigeria stated that the goal of the Succeed Online trainin series is to educate SME owners on crucial tips that would help them build their online presence and interact with customers with ease.

Google had earlier worked with the EDC at the Lagos Business School and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce to get small businesses on its GNBO initiative.
