Annoying Problems at Home | Simple Interior Design & Home ...

26 9 b 290x300 Annoying Problems at HomeTaking care of house is a must if you want to live longer inside. Cleaning your house regularly, repainting your wall, or replacing your old stuffs is the right way to take care of your house. Unfortunately annoying problems sometimes come up unpredictably, like cracked wall, mushroom and termite, and clogged drainage.? ??

Cracked wall often happens when you nail your wall to hang photos or wall accessories. This can make your wall look bad so you should repair it. Actually this problem is not caused by wall material but it is caused by you who don?t know the right way in nailing wall. To nail your wall correctly you should put cross tape in certain parts on your wall and then nail at the center of cross tape. After you do this, you can remove the cross tape on your wall. This way can also be used when you want to drill your wall.

Humidity and light intensity which are unfavorable at your house can cause mushroom and termite problem on your wall and stuffs which are made of wood. Taking care of your house from terminate you can use anti-terminate fluid which you can get at department store and spray to your wall and stuffs. If possible, you should repaint your wall and stuffs to prevent the return this problem. While for mushroom, you can use vinegar, fungicide, or disinfectant fluid to solve your mushroom problem. You can wipe your wall and stuffs which are grown by mushroom by using a fabric which is spilled by vinegar or fungicide. Remember to use fabric not brush because mushroom will spread if you use brush.

You and your family surely will feel uncomfortable if you get clogged drainage problem. To avoid this problem you should take care of it regularly, for example don?t throw plastic trash into your drainage because it can clog your drainage. You can also flush your drainage by using caustic soda fluid or salt water minimum once a week to dissolve dirt inside. If you get serious drainage problem, you can use plumbing service from Ernie?s Plumber in Grand Prairie TX to solve this problem.

Keep in mind you should do the best in taking care of your house. Good luck.

How to Maintain a Good Credit Report?

When starting or running a new business, bad credit report creates many problems for small business owners. One of the common problems that small business owners face is that they spend their entire savings in the initial funding of the company leaving very little capital for the company to operate successfully & generate profits.

It can be a struggle to uphold operations, let alone grow. So ruling additional funding abruptly is a crucial issue. Usually, the new business owners reach this point that they lose all chances of getting additional finance by overextending their personal credit or perhaps paying late or even missing payments as the business gets off the ground.
Unfortunately, they learn too late that most profitable lenders look at both personal and business credit ? usually non-existent for newer companies ? when evaluating loan requests.
Hence it is crucial for small business owners to establish and maintain a positive credit history

Below are the basic steps of establishing and maintaining a healthy business credit:
? Apply for a federal tax ID number (FEIN) and establish a legal entity, such as a corporation or LLC.

? Establish business credit through securing business loans or business credit cards.

? Be sure to pay back all bills and loans on time to establish good credit.

? Generate consistent cash flow to demonstrate the company?s capacity to repay business credit lines and loans.

? Thoroughly review your personal credit history (all three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) to ensure there are no mistakes.

? To the extent possible, clean up any outstanding collections, charge-offs and judgments.

? Develop a well-written business plan that clearly explains your financing requirements and how your business will be able to meet its repayment obligation. You should also be able to give lenders a good overall spoken description of your business within a few sentences or less.

Without the above mentioned points it becomes very difficult for small business owners to thrive in a tough economy. The key to success of very business is to be prepared with every kind of documentation, so that when time comes you are ready for every rough time.

NYU biologists uncover dynamic between biological clock and neuronal activity

Biologists at New York University have uncovered one way that biological clocks control neuronal activity a discovery that sheds new light on sleep-wake cycles and offers potential new directions for research into therapies to address sleep disorders and jetlag.

"The findings answer a significant question how biological clocks drive the activity of clock neurons, which, in turn, regulate behavioral rhythms," explained Justin Blau, an associate professor in NYU's Department of Biology and the study's senior author.

Their findings appear in the Journal of Biological Rhythms.

Scientists have known that our biological clocks control neuronal activity. But not previously understood is how this process occurs that is, how does information from biological clocks drive rhythms in the electrical activity of pacemaker neurons that, in turn, drives daily rhythms?

To understand this mechanism, the researchers examined the biological, or circadian, clocks of Drosophila fruit flies, which are commonly used for research in this area. Earlier studies of "clock genes" in fruit flies allowed the identification of similarly functioning genes in humans.

In their study, the researchers focused on eight master pacemaker neurons located in the central brain these neurons set the timing of the daily transitions between sleep and wake in the fly. Specifically, they were able to isolate these neurons from animals and identify sets of genes differentially expressed between dawn and dusk.

In a series of follow-up experiments, they concentrated on one gene, Ir, whose expression was found to be much higher at dusk than at dawn and much more highly expressed in pacemaker neurons than in the rest of the brain. Ir encodes a potassium channel that helps set the resting state of neurons and so its rhythmic expression makes it an excellent candidate to help link the biological clock to pacemaker neuron activity. High levels of Ir expression at dusk should make it much harder for pacemaker neurons to signal than the low levels seen at dawn, a finding that fits with earlier studies showing that pacemaker neurons fire more at dawn than at dusk.

The authors also found that genetic manipulations that either increase or decrease Ir levels affect behavioral rhythms. Perhaps more interestingly, these were also associated with changes in the timing and strength of oscillations in the core clock.

"Biology is never as simple as we imagine it will be," explained Blau. "We were looking for an output of the biological clock that would link the core clock to neuronal activity. Ir seems to do this, but it also, remarkably, feeds back to regulate the core clock itself. Feedback loops seem to be deeply engrained into the biological clock and presumably help these clocks work so well."

Credit score you see may not be one lender does

By Emily Stephenson, Reuters

The credit scores that consumers buy from credit reporting agencies sometimes differ from the scores lenders see when deciding the terms of loans, potentially to the detriment of the consumer, a U.S. watchdog agency said on Tuesday.?

About one in five consumers purchasing a credit score is likely to receive a substantially different score than a potential lender would see, according to the report from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

That could lead those consumers to waste time applying for loans they cannot afford or to take out loans with worse terms than they could get if they saw the same score as the lender, the consumer agency said.

"When consumers buy a credit score, they should be aware that a lender may be using a very different score in making a credit decision," CFPB Director Richard Cordray said.

The consumer agency was created by the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial oversight law and directed to oversee some aspects of credit cards, mortgages and other consumer products. The law also tasked the bureau with comparing credit scores sold to creditors with those sold to consumers by agencies such as TransUnion, Equifax and Experian.

The consumer bureau plans to start closely supervising about 30 of the largest credit reporting companies at the end of September. Cordray has said the industry plays an increased role in consumers' lives after the 2007-2009 financial crisis.

Credit scores are seen as a measure of the risk involved in lending to a particular consumer. They are used by banks, mortgage lenders and other institutions to determine whether to offer a loan and what interest rate to charge.

The scores are calculated using a variety of models that assess consumers' credit history. Dozens of credit models are used by lenders, and the scores for lenders are not always the same as the "educational" scores consumers buy, the CFPB said.

The CFPB analyzed 200,000 credit files from each of the three major credit reporting agencies to determine how credit scores used by consumers and lenders differ, according to the report.

For the majority of consumers, different scoring models generated similar information. But about 19 to 24 percent of the time, different models yielded scores that were meaningfully different, the report said.

The CFPB said consumers are unlikely to know about any discrepancy with their credit score.

Consumers should correct for this by shopping around for credit. Lenders offer different loan terms, and consumers should look for the best option, the consumer bureau said.

Consumers also should make sure their credit reports are accurate and report mistakes, lest their scores be based on faulty information, the CFPB said.?

importance of fruits | Bodybuilding, Supplements, Diets, Workouts ...

Fruits are a delight to the human senses. Fruits are the most attractive, delicious, and nutritious of all foods available. Decorating a fruit tray may sound interesting but it can be a real hassle if you aren?t aware of the different fruit types. The importance of fruits in your diet can be attributed to the fact that they contain many vitamins, minerals and fiber, which are necessary for optimum digestion.

Fruits are the best source of natural sugar and are packed with anti-oxidants. They are high in fiber and low in calories. Fruits are also low in sodium so they help reduce the chance of gaining weight due to fluid retention. Protection from illnesses is yet another benefit we gain from consuming fruit.

Fruits also protect your body from cancer-causing free radicals and slow down the effects of aging.

Fruits are at their best when eaten in the raw and ripe state. A fruit platter is a lovely addition to any gathering. A large dish decorated with various fresh fruits arranged in a pattern can be extremely delicious and appetizing. All fruits should have their individual places in the platter so that it gains a uniform appearance.

Here are a few fruit platter ideas which may be of use to you:

For a perfect fruit platter you must add a variety of fruits with different colors and textures.
Be careful with fragile fruits such as berries which get crushed easily.

Place them on the top of the bowl as garnishing.

The key to create a good looking fruit platter is to cut and slice your fruits into similar sized and shaped pieces.
You must ensure that you choose your fruits well. Shop for bright colored fruits with different textures in order to add variety to the platter.

It is very important that all the fruits are washed well and dried.

A fruit platter looks even better when you make two sections of fruits. One section can have whole fruits such as grapes, cherries, and berries and the other section can have sliced fruits which include apples, bananas, and oranges.
You can also slice melons and pineapples so they are displayed in their rinds.

Researchers solve puzzle of B-cell lymphoma development

ScienceDaily (Sep. 23, 2012) ? Germinal centers are sites in the organs of the lymphatic system, formed during the course of an immune response to infection, where B cells intensely proliferate and modify their DNA in order to produce antibodies specific for the pathogen. However, it is known that the vast majority of lymphomas derive from the B cells at the germinal centers. Now, Dr. Dinis Pedro Calado and Dr. Klaus Rajewsky of the Max Delbr?ck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch have identified subgroups of B cells in germinal centers in which the proto-oncogene Myc, a critical regulator of cellular proliferation, is highly activated. They showed in addition that the Myc gene in these subpopulations is essential for the formation and maintenance of the germinal centers.

Their findings, published in Nature Immunology, also shed light on the origin of B-cell lymphomas derived from B cells at the germinal center reaction.

The Myc gene is a key regulator of cellular proliferation and is frequently involved in chromosomal translocations in human lymphomas derived from B cells at the germinal center reaction. Such translocations, seen in roughly 10 percent of diffuse large B-cell lymphomas and almost all cases of sporadic Burkitt lymphoma, juxtapose Myc and enhancers in immunoglobulin loci, leading to deregulated Myc expression.

These observations have puzzled researchers for many years because translocations of this gene can only take place in those cells where Myc is active. "However, Myc is thought not to be expressed in B cells at the germinal center reaction, the progenitors of most B-cell lymphomas," Dr. Rajewsky said. So the question was: if B cells at the germinal center reaction do not express Myc, how can they give rise to B cell lymphomas carrying Myc translocations?

Germinal centers are located in the lymphatic organs such as the spleen, lymph nodes and Peyer's patches in the intestinal wall. In the germinal centers the B cells are confronted with antigens and quickly proliferate. For the immune system to be able to cope with the huge variety of antigens, B cells must modify their DNA through mutation (somatic hypermutation) and recombination (class-switch recombination). However, the fast proliferation together with the ongoing DNA modifications may increase the occurrence of errors, which makes the malignant transformation of B cells at the germinal center reaction probable. "B-cell lymphomas are the most common type of human lymphoid malignancies. They mostly originate either from B cells at the germinal center reaction or from B cells that have passed through the germinal center reaction," Dr. Calado and Dr. Rajewsky pointed out.

What then is the role of the Myc gene? How can Myc be highly activated through translocations in B-cell lymphomas although it is not active in healthy B cells of the germinal center reaction? Dr. Calado and Dr. Rajewsky have now found an answer to this question. They identified subpopulations of B cells located in the germinal centers in which the Myc gene is activated. They also showed that c-Myc is essential for the formation and maintenance of the germinal centers. When they knocked out the Mycgene in B cells they could show that germinal centers could not be formed or maintained.

"The MYC-positive germinal center B-cell subpopulations are probably at high risk for malignant transformation. Our work has direct implications for the understanding of the pathogenesis of human germinal center-derived B-cell lymphomas carrying MYC chromosomal translocations and therefore can contribute to a better understanding of how these lymphomas occur," Dr. Calado and Dr. Rajewsky said.

Roman Polanski to Direct Broadway Hit "Venus in Fur"

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Roman Polanski will direct his wife, Emmanuelle Seigner, in a film adaptation of David Ives' "Venus in Fur."

The erotic comedy will be filmed in French and will co-star Louis Garrel, best known in the U.S. for foregoing clothes for much of "The Dreamers."

Filming will start in November in Paris, which will push back the filming of "D.," the Alfred Dreyfus drama that was to have been Polanski's next project. The director said pre-production and screenplay work on "D." will take a few more months.

Polanski and Seigner have previously teamed up for the 1988 thriller "Frantic," the 1994 erotic drama "Bitter Moon" and the 1999 box office bomb "The Ninth Gate."

"I've been looking for a chance to make a film in French with Emmanuelle for a long time," Polanski said in a statement. "Reading 'Venus in Fur,' I realized the moment had arrived."

"Venus in Fur" centers on an actress' sadomasochistic audition for a role in a new play. It was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play and won a statue for star Nina Arianda.

Polanski is celebrated for such classics as "Rosemary's Baby" and "Chinatown," but his personal life has often overshadowed his professional one. The U.S. government has tried repeatedly to extradite him over charges stemming from his rape of a then-13-year-old girl in the 1970s.

Polanski's most recent film, "Carnage," was an adaptation of Yasmina Reza's Broadway hit, "God of Carnage," but was a disappointment both critically and financially.

"Venus in Fur" will be independently financed and Lionsgate/Summit International will represent the film's international sales. ICM will represent North American rights.

NEW YORK (AP) ? The numbers say there isn't much difference in the NFL with replacement officials. Comments from players and coaches say otherwise.

As fan outrage grows over calls and non-calls, delays in doling out penalties and indecision by the replacements, statistics show strong similarities between the number of flags thrown this year by the temporary crews and last year by the guys who currently are locked out.

The NFL knows things are far from perfect ? something that could have been predicted with officials whose recent experience typically was not even at the highest college levels. But things are never perfect with the regulars, either, and the league shows no sign of being forced back to the negotiating table because of the criticism.

"We are going to continue to do everything possible to raise the level of performance of the current officials" through training tapes, conference calls and meetings, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday.

The league does that with the regular officials, too.

One point of emphasis this week will be game control and making sure players are penalized for unnecessary actions ranging from roughness penalties to unsportsmanlike conduct.

Game control and simple professionalism by the officials have become key issues this week after complaints from a number of players.

"There's no doubt the integrity of the game has been compromised not having the regular officials out there," Giants linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka said. "We've got to get that taken care of."

Added Rams coach Jeff Fisher: "We just all hope, and I'm speaking on behalf of all 31 other head coaches, we hope they get something done. We're trusting that they will."

The Eagles' LeSean McCoy was stunned when one of the replacements told the All-Pro running back he was on the official's fantasy football team. The league prohibits its game officials from playing fantasy football.

"I'll be honest," McCoy said, "they are like fans."

What the fans seem most annoyed with is the lack of pace to games, most notably Monday night's win by the Falcons over the Broncos that dragged on past midnight. That's about the only area where, statistically, the replacements have been far inferior.

Average time of game is about six minutes longer in 2012 than in 2011, and with only one overtime game in the opening two weeks ? same as last year ? extra periods can't be blamed. More likely, the time it takes to properly administrate penalties throughout the game is the cause.

The league has a supervisor in the press box and an alternate official on the sideline to help in that area. But it's been a struggle.

"It's a combination of everything," said Fisher, who has served on the NFL's competition committee for most of his coaching career. "Most of them are not (from) Division I. They're all doing the best they can but it's a combination of everything: it's the speed, it's the differences in rules. We just hope they're able to put things together as soon as they can."

The perception seems to be flags are flying indiscriminately. And yet:

? The average number of penalties per game is down from 15.2 to 14.7.

? On player safety calls, such as roughing the passer; unnecessary roughness, including hitting defenseless players; and, face-mask or horse-collar violations, the calls are nearly even: 75 this year, 74 last.

? Instant replay reviews are way up, an increase of 16. But the percentage of reversals is way down: 23 this year out of 62 as opposed to 21 of 46 in 2011.

? Defensive pass interference and illegal contact penalties are up, but only from 48 to 51, surprising because of the hubbub raised on the airwaves about the lack of such calls.

Offensive players believe the replacements are concentrating on pass interference penalties against them, not against defensive backs. The numbers: six such calls this season to nine through two weeks last year.

"It's frustrating because I think there was no offensive pass interferences called the whole preseason, so that's kind of what they've been emphasizing," said Vikings receiver Percy Harvin, who believes he was victimized by "a terrible call" of offensive interference in a loss Sunday at Indianapolis. "It wasn't just our game but a lot of offensive pass interferences called. It just seemed like they were gunning for the offensive pass interferences this week.

"It's frustrating not knowing exactly what they are looking at, but we can't worry about that. We have to adjust to the game and be ready to go from there."

Where does the officiating situation go from here? No negotiations with the NFL Referees Association are planned, and the NFL has drawn up a schedule to use the replacements for five weeks, if necessary.

That bothers Giants defensive end Justin Tuck.

"I am not necessarily mad at the replacement officials," Tuck said. "I am more upset with the NFL for not handling this and taking care of this in due time."

Invisible plastic particles in seawater damaging to sea animals

ScienceDaily (Sep. 20, 2012) ? Plastic nanoparticles in seawater can have an adverse effect on sea organisms. Particles measuring about a thirty millionth of a millimetre, and therefore invisible to the naked eye, are responsible. Mussels that have been exposed to such particles eat less, and thus grow less well, according to research carried out by scientists and students at Wageningen University and IMARES, both part of Wageningen UR. They wrote about their research in the most recent issue of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.

The presence of 'plastic soup' in the oceans is regarded as a big problem. Tiny plastic particles enter the sea when plastic debris decomposes. Such particles are probably also released from cosmetics and from clothes in the wash, subsequently entering the sewage system and surface waters and eventually reaching the sea.

The EU and the Dutch government recognise the problem and the need to monitor the existence of plastics in the seas in order to learn more about present and future concentrations of plastic micro- and nanoparticles in marine environments. Very little is known about the effects plastic nanoparticles have on sea life. The effects now discovered do not yet prove that plastic in the North Sea is a big problem, but they do suggest that further research is extremely important, the researchers remark.

Professor Bart Koelmans' research team, from Wageningen University and IMARES, exposed mussels to various concentrations of nanoplastic in order to discover the concentration at which an effect was noticeable. The team also varied the quantity of algae -- the normal food source for mussels. By giving the plastic nanoparticles colour, and by measuring them using dynamic light scattering, it was possible to determine the particle concentration that exerted an effect. The researchers described in their publication that the extent to which the tiny plastic particles clump together is also extremely important for understanding particle uptake and the resulting effects in marine organisms. "It means that those effects are not easy to predict because the biological availability of the particles can differ enormously from one organism to another, and because variation in water quality also plays a role," says Prof. Koelmans.

Four research studies

This publication is the first of four by Wageningen University and IMARES into the effects of plastic in the North Sea. The other studies will be published in the near future. The first of these is research into the effect of plastic on lugworms, which lose weight due to uptake of plastic particles. The worms, as a result, take in more toxic substances such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which bind to plastics.

The researchers believe this indicates the need for good research into other toxic substances that bind to plastic -- an additional consequence of the presence of microplastics. In order to analyse the interaction of plastic and other toxic substances in the food web, Koelmans' group has made a detailed computer model. This type of model is crucial for estimating the risks plastics impose in the sea. The last piece of research is into plastic debris in the stomachs of fish. An analysis of hundreds of fish has shown that 12% of them have debris in their stomachs. Around half of that debris is plastic.

How to Seal and Protect Your Driveway

An asphalt driveway is an investment that?s well worth protecting. A little time spent patching and sealing can extend the life of the blacktop and improve the curb appeal?and value?of your home. There?s no better time of year to restore asphalt than right now, before winter arrives with its punishing weather and subfreezing temperatures.

But before you apply a topcoat sealer, you must inspect the driveway and make the necessary repairs. Here?s how.

Before You Seal the Driveway

1. Look for trouble spots

Carefully inspect every square foot of your driveway and make note of any cracks, oily stains, potholes, or areas that are crumbling. Pay particular attention to the very end and edges of the driveway, which are especially susceptible to damage.

2. Scrub away stains

If you find oil or grease stains, try removing them with hot, soapy water and a stiff-bristle scrub brush. If that fails, dissolve the stains with a degreaser such as Oil Eater or Krud Kutter.

3. Fill in cracks

Most driveways will have at least a few cracks, which must be repaired before you apply an asphalt sealer. It?s important to repair all cracks, even the smallest ones. If you don?t, they?ll only grow wider and longer over time.

There are several different products available for filling cracks in asphalt driveways, including ones that come in pourable-liquid squeeze bottles, caulking tubes, and preformed rolls. The appropriate filler to use will depend on the size of the crack.

For example, most liquid fillers will repair cracks up to about one-quarter inch wide. For cracks between one quarter inch and one-half inch, you?ll need an asphalt-repair caulk or roll-type filler. In some cases, you may need to go through two applications to fill the crack so that it?s flush with the surface of the driveway. For cracks wider than one-half inch, stuff foam backer rod into the crack, then apply caulk or roll-type crack filler. Be sure to read and follow the manufacturer?s instructions for best results.

Important: Before applying any filler, use a wet-or-dry vacuum to clean the cracks of loose dirt, grass, stones, or other matter. If necessary, use a slotted screwdriver, awl, or similar tool to pick out any trapped debris, grass, or weeds.

4. Patch potholes

If your driveway?s cracks have widened into potholes, you?re in for a different fix. Repair potholes, deep depressions, and crumbled areas with blacktop patch (also called cold patch). Blacktop patch is essentially ready-to-use asphalt that comes in a bag. (If your new bag of blacktop patch feels hard or frozen, drop it on the ground a few times and roll it back and forth to break up the material inside.)

Brush or vacuum the area clean, making sure to remove any pieces of loose asphalt or substrate. Cut open the bag and use a shovel to spread blacktop patch about 2 inches deep across the hole. Compact the area with a hand tamper, or a spare length of 4 x 4 or 2 x 4. Add more blacktop patch, if necessary, and compact the area again. Repeat this process until the hole is slightly overfilled. Then drive your car back and forth over the patch until it?s flush with the driveway. If the patch sinks below the surrounding surface, add more blacktop patch and repeat. Allow the patch to cure at least 24 hours before sealing.

5. Prep the driveway for sealing

The last step before applying a sealer is to thoroughly clean the driveway. Start with a push broom and sweep away the heaviest debris. Then use a garden hose, or better yet, a pressure washer to rinse the surface clean of all loose dirt, sand, and grit. Start at the highest end of the driveway and work down and out toward the edges. If your driveway is very dirty and difficult to scrub clean, consider using a concentrated asphalt cleaner, such as Driveway Kleen.

Sealing the Driveway

Check the weather forecast before applying sealer. Depending on the sealer used, you may need two to three days of dry, sunny weather for the sealer to set and dry properly. Make sure the driveway?s surface is completely dry before starting.

There are several different types of asphalt-driveway sealers available. The least expensive, tar-emulsion sealers, provide minimal protection but only cost about $12 per 5-gallon pail. However, they require constant stirring throughout application. Asphalt-emulsion sealers are the most popular type of driveway sealer. They cost about $20 to $25 per 5-gallon pail, typically don?t require stirring, and provide excellent resistance to oil stains and water penetration.

Advanced latex-acrylic sealers last longer, fade less, and dry very quickly. In most cases, you can drive your car onto the driveway just 4 hours after sealing; for most other sealers you must wait 24 hours. These features come at a cost, though: $50 to $65 for 2 gallons of sealer. Lastly, there are industrial-duty liquid-rubber sealers that are fortified with titanium. They provide superior surface protection and wear-resistance, but they cost?I hope you?re sitting down?more than $500 per 5-gallon pail.

Each type of sealer comes with specific application instructions, so it?s crucial to use the exact tools and methods the manufacturer recommends. Most sealers are applied with a long-handled tool that has a flexible rubber squeegee on one edge and a short, stiff-bristle brush on the other. You use the squeegee blade to spread the sealer around and the bristle brush to even it out. Other sealers are applied with a thick-nap paint roller.

Again, it?s important to follow the manufacturer?s recommendations, but here?s how sealers are typically applied: Pour a 12-inch-wide ribbon of sealant across the driveway, then push and pull the sealant with the squeegee to cover an area that?s about 3 feet wide by the width of the driveway. Repeat this process, overlapping the previous section, until you?ve covered the entire driveway. Now immediately go back and use the bristle-brush edge to spread out any excess sealant that may have settled into low spots.

Allow the first coat to dry for 6 to 12 hours, then apply a second coat. (It?s best to apply two thin coats rather than one thick coat.) Once you?re done, use sawhorses or brightly colored ribbons to block the end of the driveway to traffic for at least 24 hours.

Javont Vault

What will happen to your data when you die? Even if you have a lawyer and a last will and testament that accounts for your material possessions, how likely is it that the information won't be up to date? What will happen to your savings accounts, miscellaneous retirement accounts, and the code to your safety deposit box? Desktop software Javont Vault ($39.99) pulls together all your material and virtual properties and saves them securely in a place that only a person with your Social Security number will be able to crack. We at PCMag have been debating whether using an SSN as a login is safe, as it definitely elicits a knee-jerk reaction. See the section on Security below for more.

Price and security make a winning combo for Javont Vault. First, in a world that's moving to the cloud, and thus monthly service storage fees, it's refreshing to come across software that charges you once and only once for a product. No upsells. No add-ons. You buy it, you own it, the end. Second and also related to Javont not being in the cloud, this program stores all your data locally on your computer, never even connecting to the Internet, which means you never have to worry about a leak or hack on Javont's side. And?bonus?Javont Vault includes a 1GB USB memory stick that can house an exported copy of your information. What better way to encourage users to back up than to just give them the components they need to do it?

How Javont Vault Works
The $40 Javont Vault ships on disc for Windows only (XP, Vista, Windows 7). One minor downside of avoiding the Internet for security is that your computer must have a DVD drive to install the application, which could be a problem if you rely on a disc drive-less ultrabook. Additionally, to make use of the included USB stick, you'll need a USB port, too.

Javont encourages users to hit the Internet just once for product registration, although the only thing you miss out on by skipping it is notification of software updates and 90 days of included product support. Unregistered copies of the software aren't entitled to product support. ?The choice is yours.

During set up, the software prompts you, as the primary user, to enter your social security number as your "security code." The idea here is that your next of kin will at least have your social security number and thus be able to unlock your information that's securely stored in Javont Vault. Once you enter your social security number, you cannot change it.

Of course, this poses a major challenge for anyone who doesn't have a U.S. social security number. U.S. bias shows up in other areas of the software, too, as I'll point out later in this review.

Security?
Locking Javont Vault with a SSN left me wondering if that was secure enough or if it might even be entirely unsecure, seeing as someone with a keystroke recording device could easily nab my SSN when I log into Javont Vault. For the purposes of testing, I simply made up a nine-digit number. There's no way for Javont Vault to know whether you use your actual SSN. Still, I was surprised to be able to log in with only my fake social security number, without two-factor authentication. Additionally, I would think that my next of kin should be required to enter something more than just my nine-digit number to unlock my Javont Vault, such as my birth date, full legal name, or a secret question?something my next of kin would surely know after I'm dead and in an urn.

According to the product information, data entered into Javont Vault is compressed and encrypted each time you close the application. Whenever you exit the app, it shows you on screen a little window indicating that it is compressing and locking up your data.

What You Can Put Into the Vault
As you first set up Javont Vault, you're prompted to enter first the people in your life, such as a spouse, children, and "other." Each person appears in a log with their name, birth date, social security number (which is required to save a user, and thus another instance of U.S. bias), and their relationship to you the primary user.

After that fateful day when you perish, whomever is in charge of unlocking your Javont Vault will need that clear identifying information about people who mattered to you for doling out your riches (or perhaps passing on your debts).

When you've finished entering important people, you can navigate through a row of tabs at the top of the simple and compact software for banking, investments, retirement, insurance, physical property, household bills, memberships, and file cabinet. Each tab offers additional options. For example, physical property includes real estate, valuables, safe deposit boxes, and post office boxes. The selections cover a comprehensive amount of stuff you might leave behind, more than I'll ever have, sadly.

Every time a new asset or account goes into Javont Vault, you're prompted to fill out several required fields to make sure that you're not leaving your next-in-line people guessing what was what?the location of the safety deposit box, the insurance policy number, even the username and password for the utility bills.

U.S. Bias
One problem I noticed? is that for certain entries, "state" is a required field, which prevented me from creating an appropriate entry for the villa in Catalu?a I pretended I owned. Javont Vault also had trouble with my phony Swiss bank account, and the safety deposit box that I hide at my fake Uncle Artie's sugar shack in Ontario. And as I mentioned earlier, if one of your family members (or you) don't have a Social Security number, you're out of the Javont loop. Anyone with assets and interests outside the U.S. will have a lot of trouble with these requirements.

The last tab in the list is called File Cabinet, a catchall place for your miscellaneous stuff, from passwords to personal documents. The File Cabinet could theoretically be a loophole for entering non-U.S. information?just file it in the File Cabinet instead of the section where it really belongs. I don't like workarounds, but I sure as hell will seek them out when necessary. What's missing from this section is an upload button. You can't actually upload scanned documents, an oversight for sure, seeing as you can upload images of your valuables in the Physical Properties tab.

Who Needs a Lawyer with Javont?
I have reviewed a few other general purpose digital filing cabinets, including as Neat Cloud and Doxo, and must say that I really like that Javont's design takes into consideration how your next of kin will unlock your virtual vault to actually access the information they'll need.

The only real sticking point for potential Javont Vault users is the U.S. centricity. If some of your family members, properties, or investments reside overseas, you might find the package doesn't meet all your needs. Otherwise, it's a solid solution to a tough problem, at an affordable price.

Hasselblad H5D brings the megapixels to Photokina, we go hands-on

Oh, and if the Hasselblad Lunar isn't quite rich enough for your blood, why not take a look at the H5D medium format camera? The device looks a good deal like its predecessor, maintaining a similar video camera-esque form factor, with an optical viewfinder that extends from the front of the body to the back, above a larger, brighter, easier-to-read display. You'll also find a smaller, monochrome display on the top of the camera to the right of the optical viewfinder. The H5D's also a bit more ruggedized than its predecessor, with improved waterproofing and larger controls -- and it certainly does feel like a big, sturdy camera.

As with the Lunar, the version we played with is still in prototype stage and wasn't quite functioning perfectly, much to the chagrin of the Hasselblad rep. When the camera hits in December (functioning properly, no doubt), it's going to start at a (perhaps not surprisingly) pricey €13,000 here in Europe, going all the way up to €30,000, depending on whether you opt for the 40-, 50, or 60-megapixel variety -- because hey, what's another €17,000, right?

The Hudsucker Proxy (1994): Amy Talks to Moses

The clip Amy talks to moses from The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) with Bill Cobbs, Jennifer Jason Leigh What are you doing, Miss Archer? Who are you? How did you know who I am? I suspect Old Moses knows just about everything... ...leastways if it concerns Hudsucker. Who are you? What do you do here? I keep the old circle turning. This old clock needs plenty of care. Time is money, Miss Archer. Money drives that old global economy... ...and keeps Big Daddy Earth spinning around. See, without that capital formation- You won't tell anyone about me, will you? I don't tell no one nothing... ...unless they ask. That just ain't Old Moses' way. If you know everything about Hudsucker... ...tell me why the board decided to make Norville Barnes president? That even surprised Old Moses at first. I didn't think the board was that smart. "That smart?" But then I figured it out. They did it because... ...they figured young Norville for an imbecile, like some other people I know. Why on earth would the board want a nitwit to be president? Because they're little piglets. They're trying to inspire panic... ...make that stock cheap so they can snatch it all up for themselves. But Norville's got some tricks up his sleeve. He does. "You know, for kids?" Yeah, he's a smart one, that Norville. But I guess you don't really know him any better than that board does, do you? Maybe I- And only some kind of knuckle-head thinks she knows things about things... When she don't... How'd that go? Well, it's hardly the same. You don't even know your own self.
