UPDATE: @LilFlip713 Released from Jail? Says Gun Was Legal ...

lil-flip-mugshot

Last week we reported that Houston rapper, Lil Flip had been arrested in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana after being pulled over and charged with gun and drug possession charges with police claiming that he had marijuana in the car and that he was illegally carrying an assault rifle.

Just yesterday Lil Flip was released from jail and he claims that he has a license for the gun he was arrested for and that the substance the police assumed was marijuana was really just the guts of a Black & Mild. The disgruntled rapper took to Twitter to call out the police officer who arrested him, saying:

?#FRESHOUT???? GOOGLE OFFICER#9845 DENNIS, BUCKINGHAM IN MANSFIELD ,LOUISIANA I HAVE A GUN LICENSE..???? AND BLACK N MILD GUTS AIN?T GANJA???? ME SAVAGE BEEN OUT SINCE YESTER DAY?IF MY GUN WAS A PROBLEM WHY IS IT STILL IN MY TRUNK.. IT?S ALL GOOD?.

Rose Parade wonders of a century ago - with post-parade ostrich, elephant and camel races

The special 1913 Rose Parade edition of the Pasadena Daily News featured a rose-covered glamour girl on the cover, and portraits of the parade's queen - and king, as decreed by President Edward T. Off to reign over the event. (HAND-IN)

A hundred years ago there was a Tournament of Roses parade just as there will be this week.

The Pasadena Daily News published a special edition about the parade and it also printed articles on the many wonders of Pasadena.

Edward T. Off was president of the Tournament of Roses Association and wrote of its history.

He said, "Commercialism has never been permitted to enter our floral parade. No painted signs or sordid suggestion of any kind encroaches to mar the beautiful effect."

President Off decreed in 1913 that both a king and queen should reign over the event.

Harrison I. Drummond and Miss Jean P. French were named.

The judges awarded a special prize to Adolphus Busch for the best horse-drawn vehicle in the parade. The Komical Knights of the Karnival won first prize for a two-horse vehicle.

The prize for gasoline powered automobiles carrying four or more went to the Hotel Green. The Keystone Film Company, known for Keystone Comedies, came in second.

Emma H. Diers got first prize for electric vehicles.

The Association had made enough money to buy the 21-acre area that became known as Tournament Park.

After the parade, chariot races were held at Tournament Park before 50,000 people. Jo Hendrickson, in his history of the Tournament, says that memorable in 1913 were ostrich races and an elephant-camel race.

He says one ostrich threw the rider off and the elephant had to be

prodded to finish.

Articles in the special Pasadena Daily News edition included "Dreams and Visions" by Rev. Robert J. Burdette, "Game and Fish in Southern California" by Joe Welsh, "Pasadena Thirty Years Ago" by J. W. Wood, "Church Life in Pasadena" by Rev. Robert Freeman, D.D., "Pasadena a Floral Bower" by P.D. Barnhart, "Mid-Winter Outdoor Life in Pasadena" by Dr. Garrett Newkirk, "Beautiful Homes of Pasadena," by Isabel Bates Winslow and "How Pasadena in Governed" by Mayor William H. Thum.

There was an article on the Pasadena Polo Club that played at Tournament Park. Another on "Arroyo Seco Natural Park - An Inspiration to the Artists."

Tournament Park at Wilson Avenue and California Boulevard now mostly belongs to Caltech.

The ITC's Proposing Some Rough Sanctions Against Patent-Infringing Samsung Phones

The Apple vs. Samsung battle is trucking along, and this time there's more bad news for Samsung. Yesterday, a somewhat censored version of presiding Judge Thomas Pender's suggested sanctions regarding the Apple's complaint to the ITC was published and it includes not only an import and sales ban on the infringing products, but also the posting of a bond for 88 percent of the value of those phones. Surgery Junkies: Wellness and Pathology in Cosmetic CultureSurgery Junkies: Wellness and Pathology in Cosmetic CultureThe ease of accessibility, improvements in safety and technology, media attention, growing acceptance by the public, or an increasingly superficial culture: whatever the reason, cosmetic surgery is more popular today than ever. In 2005, in the United States alone, there were nearly two million aesthetic operations-more than quadruple the number from 1984, along with more than eight million non-surgical procedures. Innovative surgical methods have also brought cosmetic improvements to new areas of the body, such as the ribs, buttocks, and genitalia.

Despite the increasing normalization of cosmetic surgery, however, there are still those who identify individuals who opt for bodily modifications as dupes of beauty culture, as being in conflict with feminist ideals, or as having some form of psychological weakness. In this ground-breaking book, Victoria Pitts-Taylor examines why we consider some cosmetic surgeries to be acceptable or even beneficial and others to be unacceptable and possibly harmful. Similarly, why are some patients considered to be psychologically healthy while others deemed pathological? When is the modification of our appearance empowering and when is it a sign of weakness?

Drawing on years of research, her personal experience with cosmetic surgery, analysis of newspaper articles and television shows, and in-depth interviews with surgeons, psychiatrists, lawyers, judges, and others, Pitts-Taylor brings new perspectives to the promotion of "extreme" makeovers on television, the medicalization of "surgery addiction," the moral and political interrogation that many patients face, and feminist debates on the topic.

While many feel that cosmetic surgery is a deeply personal choice and that its pathology is rooted in the individual psyche, Pitts-Taylor makes a compelling argument that the experience, meanings, and motivations for cosmetic surgery are highly social. A much needed "makeover" of our cultural understanding of cosmetic surgery, this book is both authoritative and thoroughly engaging.

Is it possible that women with no self esteem , who TOLERATE too ...

No, not at all. I am the same as you. I am confident and I don't have self esteem issues. Not saying that I don't have insecurities but it's not about my self image or who I am in a relationship ya know?

Women who don't have self esteem may need and tend to settle for what they aren't really wanting so they take it just to be with someone. Or they tolerate it to the point where they don't want to lose what they have because they think it will improve. Maybe I'm wrong.

I tolerate some things because I fell in love with that person, but early on in a relationship I won't tolerate certain behavior if that makes sense. Before my current relationship, I dated a lot before I found Mr. Right (for now) and it took two yrs since my previous relationship. I don't want to settle and I wasn't really looking. It just happened.

Before I met my current bf, I figured I was meant to be single. I just couldn't understand why I had such high standards or why I wasn't feeling it with anyone else, it came to a point where I didn't even want to date.

iPad dominates tablet Web traffic among tablets

4 hrs.

Those spunky?Android tablets may have made big gains on Apple's flagship slate in recent months in terms of sales, but competitors still have a long way to go when it comes to actual usage. So says Chitika Insights, an ad and analytics firm that claims the iPad still accounts for a full 87 percent of all tablet Web traffic.

For every 100 iPad impressions Chitika receives, it only receives 14.75 impressions from all other tablets combined, VentureBeat reports.

As you can see in the chart below, the Kindle Fire family is far and away the second most popular tablet on Chitika's ad network, and it generates more than 20 times less traffic than the iPad, accounting for just 4.88 percent of all impressions. The vaunted Google Nexus tablets? Just 1.22 percent.

Early reports peg Microsoft's Surface tablet as the most-used Windows 8/RT device, but it only accounts for 0.22 percent of all tablet traffic by Chitika's count???just 0.04 points ahead of the defunct HP TouchPad's share. No wonder Microsoft has broadened the Surface's distribution.

Android tablets, on the other hand, have been on a hot streak of late. Google-powered tablets managed to knock the iPad's market share down to "just" 50.4 percent in the third quarter, which was the Apple tablet's smallest chunk since its launch.

One strong quarter is just the start of an uphill battle for Android, however. As Chitika's numbers show, years of utter dominance by the iPad have given it a substantial lead when it comes to actual usage. It will be interesting to see if the release of the iPad mini and fourth-gen iPad chew into Android's gains when the fourth-quarter sales numbers are released.

Matthews raises profile during campaign

NEW YORK (AP) -- To his boss, Chris Matthews has become a statesman. His critics probably have other words.

The veteran MSNBC host raised his profile as much as any member of the television commentariat during the presidential campaign. His 5 p.m. "Hardball" show has seen viewership jump by 24 percent this year from 2011, 17 percent for the rerun two hours later.

Matthews symbolized MSNBC's growing comfort in being a liberal alternative to Fox News Channel. He engaged in an uncomfortable on-air confrontation with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, seemed nearly apoplectic when President Barack Obama flubbed his first debate and had to apologize for appearing grateful that Hurricane Sandy might have helped Obama's re-election effort.

With Keith Olbermann out of sight, Matthews essentially replaced him as the commentator that most annoyed conservative viewers.

"During the run-up to the Iraq War, he just became really, really partisan and became even more so when MSNBC decided to become the anti-Fox," said Geoff Dickens, who used to watch Matthews as a fan and now monitors him regularly as part of his job with the conservative Media Research Center.

Matthews is not afraid to say what he thinks. He's a former newspaper columnist and one-time aide to a 1980s era Democrat, House Speaker Tip O'Neill. He seriously considered running for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania a few years back, where he probably would have been asked repeatedly to explain why he voted for George W. Bush in 2000.

He's a motor-mouth infused with a love of politics that borders on the pathological.

"He's as good as he's ever been," said Phil Griffin, MSNBC president. "He's at a place in his life where he's really comfortable in his own skin. He's a statesman. He has so much knowledge and I think he understands it better. He's always been great, but I really think he's been at the peak of his game."

Iraq turned Matthews against Bush. He said war and peace, and civil rights, are the issues that drive him most and explain his enthusiasm for Obama.

Matthews seemed personally offended by efforts in individual states to tighten voter registration and identification laws. Republicans called it an attempt to curb voter fraud; Matthews said it was to suppress voters friendly to Obama. He said Republicans would use welfare and other issues to subtly appeal to white voters still uncomfortable with a black president.

"The number of African-Americans who have come up to me in the last three to six months has been unbelievable," Matthews said in a recent interview. "They come up, six inches from my face, and say 'thank you.' A lot of the times they say we can't do this like you do it. It's harder for them because it sounds like complaining." He's disappointed that more whites didn't express gratitude, too.

His repeated attention to the issue "irritates some people, because they can't stand being called bigoted. It drives them crazy. And I agree, it would drive me crazy."

The issue drove his confrontation with Prebius, which occurred on "Morning Joe" during the GOP convention. Matthews challenged Prebius about playing the "race card" during the campaign and for references to Obama's birth certificate. It devolved into a schoolyard insult match.

"He should have kept it together in terms of tone," Griffin said. "But in what was said, going back and forth, it was a legitimate point."

Prebius later called Matthews "the biggest jerk in the room." Matthews doesn't seem to have any regrets.

"I'd been talking like that for awhile," he said. "He didn't like it. I didn't expect he would. I felt that I had in my presence the guy who represented the party and it was an opportunity I shouldn't let pass. It's one of those moments in the campaign that's going to have endurance."

The one quote Republican critics repeatedly throw back at Matthews is when he reacted to an Obama speech in 2008 by saying "I felt this thrill going up my leg."

Matthews points out that he said something similar in 2004, after Obama addressed the Democratic national convention. Its frequent citation annoys Matthews, who knows it will never leave him, but probably also because he thinks people miss the point. He was speaking more about what Obama represented ? a black man seeking the highest office in a land with a troubled racial history ? than Obama himself.

It hasn't exempted himself from some high-level teasing, like when Obama appeared at the campaign's Al Smith dinner after the president's disastrous first debate.

"I particularly want to apologize to Chris Matthews," Obama said. "Four years ago I gave him a thrill up his leg. This time around, I gave him a stroke."

Matthews said "Hardball" has gotten a sharper focus. The editorial opinion has moved to the front of the show. Saying what he thinks isn't hard; Matthews' flirtation with running for the Senate ended in part because the need to adhere to party orthodoxy wouldn't mix with a man comfortable with voicing a dozen opinions per minute.

"I never want to do what everybody else is doing," he said. "I don't want to be part of the chorus."

Like most in his trade, Matthews seems a little lost with the end of a long campaign. He's done a few speculative 2016 stories, not recognizing the subject is enough to send most people screaming from the room.

Every day is one day closer to another election, though.

"He is sort of the model figure for who we are," Griffin said. "He doesn't stick out loving politics and being passionate about politics. It comes across in everything we do ... And that's Chris."

Hybrid and electric car sales jump 73 percent in 2012

US sales of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric cars should reach 440,000 units in 2012 ? a 73% improvement over 2011 ? according to?market research firm Mintel.

The change hasn't come overnight. Though the first hybrids debuted in the late 1990s, it's taken the public a while to warm up to?green?vehicles. The delay can be attributed to the higher cost of those cars, fear of the technology, and dozens of other factors.

(AP Photo/Chris Carlson, File)

(AP) ? Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it has reached a settlement worth more than $1 billion in a case involving unintended acceleration problems in its vehicles.

The company said the deal will resolve hundreds of lawsuits from Toyota owners who said the value of their cars and trucks plummeted after a series of recalls stemming from claims that Toyota vehicles accelerated unintentionally.

Steve Berman, a lawyer representing Toyota owners, said the settlement is the largest in U.S. history involving automobile defects.

"We kept fighting and fighting and we secured what we think was a good settlement given the risks of this litigation," Berman told The Associated Press.

The proposed deal was filed Wednesday and must receive the approval of U.S. District Judge James Selna, who was expected to review the settlement Friday.

Toyota said it will take a one-time, $1.1 billion pre-tax charge against earnings to cover the estimated costs of the settlement. Berman said the total value of the deal is between $1.2 billion and $1.4 billion.

Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against Toyota since 2009, when the Japanese automaker started receiving numerous complaints that its cars accelerated on their own, causing crashes, injuries and even deaths.

The cases were consolidated in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana and divided into two categories: economic loss and wrongful death. Claims by people who seek compensation for injury and death due to sudden acceleration are not part of the settlement; the first trial involving those suits is scheduled for February.

As part of the economic loss settlement, Toyota will offer cash payments from a pool of about $250 million to eligible customers who sold vehicles or turned in leased vehicles between September 2009 and December 2010.

The company also will launch a $250 million program for 16 million current owners to provide supplemental warranty coverage for certain vehicle components, and it will retrofit about 3.2 million vehicles with a brake override system. An override system is designed to ensure a car will stop when the brakes are applied, even if the accelerator pedal is depressed.

The settlement would also establish additional driver education programs and fund new research into advanced safety technologies.

"In keeping with our core principles, we have structured this agreement in ways that work to put our customers first and demonstrate that they can count on Toyota to stand behind our vehicles," said Christopher Reynolds, Toyota vice president and general counsel.

Current and former Toyota owners are expected to receive more information about the settlement in the coming months. Some information is also available at http://www.ToyotaELsettlement.com , a website created for Toyota owners affected by the settlement.

"We are extraordinarily proud of how we were able to represent the interests of Toyota owners, and believe this settlement is both comprehensive in its scope and fair in compensation," Berman said.

Toyota has recalled more than 14 million vehicles worldwide due to acceleration problems in several models and brake defects with the Prius hybrid. The automaker has blamed driver error, faulty floor mats and stuck accelerator pedals for the problems.

Plaintiffs' attorneys have spent the past two years deposing Toyota employees, poring over thousands of documents and reviewing software code, but the company maintains those lawyers have been unable to prove that a design defect ? namely Toyota's electronic throttle control system ? was responsible for vehicles surging unexpectedly.

Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and NASA were unable to find any defects in Toyota's source code that could cause problems.

The company has been dogged by fines for not reporting problems in a timely manner.

Earlier this month, NHTSA doled out a record $17.4 million fine to Toyota for failing to quickly report floor mat problems with some of its Lexus models. Toyota paid a total of $48.8 million in fines for three violations in 2010.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda appeared before Congress last year and pledged to strengthen quality control. Recent sales figures show the company appears to have rebounded following its safety issues.

SpaceX Grasshopper reusable rocket improves leap to 131 feet video

Not to mix Aesop's Fables or anything, but when it comes to the world of commercial space race, sometimes slow and steady is the thing. A couple months back, we watched SpaceX's reusable vertical takeoff, vertical landing rocket, the Grasshopper, nudge its way off the ground. And while this current test isn't exactly the "few hundred feet to two miles" that we were promised, it's quite literally a step in the right direction, at 131 feet, plus some quality hover time. All in all, the test, conducted December 17th in McGregor, Texas, took around 29 seconds to unfold. Relive it in the video after the break.

Transfusions add risk in some heart attacks, finds study of patients with anemia

Dec. 24, 2012 ? When heart attack patients present in the emergency department with some degree of anemia, or anemic patients have a heart attack, physicians have a tendency, but not much guidance, about whether to provide a blood transfusion. The idea is that a transfusion could help more oxygen get to the heart. Recent national guidelines suggested that there simply isn't good evidence to encourage or discourage the common practice, but a new meta-analysis of 10 studies involving more than 203,000 such patients comes down on the side of it increasing the risk of death.

The next step for determining when the practice could be appropriate needs rigorous randomized trials that will generate more decisive, high-quality data, said lead author Dr. Saurav Chatterjee, a cardiology fellow at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the Providence VA Medical Center.

For the analysis published Dec. 24 in the Archives of Internal Medicine, Chatterjee and his co-authors combined and analyzed data from studies in which anemia patients with heart attacks either received "liberal" transfusions or received more restricted versions of the treatment or no transfusions at all. Liberal transfusions were defined as cases in which patients either received two units of blood or more or had a transfusion even with a hematocrit reading (a measure of red blood cell concentration) higher than 30 percent (normal is in the low 40s).

What the researchers found, after statistical adjustments to control for important medical factors, was that the risk of death was 12 percent higher for people who received the liberal transfusions than those who did not. Moreover, the group that received liberal transfusions had twice the odds of having another heart attack.

"What we found is that the possibility of real harm exists with transfusion," Chatterjee said. "It is practiced in emergency departments all across the United States. I think it is high time that we need to answer the question definitively with a randomized trial."

Of the 10 papers that Chatterjee and his co-authors reviewed, all but one were observational studies. The only randomized trial was a small pilot experiment.

Searching for an answer

Chatterjee began the study when he was a resident at Maimonides Medical Center in New York. He noticed a paper by the AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks) in which the association said there was not enough clinical evidence for or against transfusions in heart attack patients.

For clinicians, the practice has always been a tough judgment call. Some transfusions are clearly necessary, for example when a patient's troubles include not just a heart attack but also severe ongoing bleeding, Chatterjee said. But transfusions also create health risks, such as an increase in potential clotting because platelets may clump together more, or from an inflammatory immune response to the introduction of blood of a "foreign" source into the body.

Chatterjee and his co-authors decided to comb the literature to determine whether, if properly combined and analyzed, existing data could provide some insight. They found 729 potentially relevant studies, but only 10 that had the right data to help answer the question.

Few as they were, Chatterjee said, the studies all told much the same story.

"One of the things that struck us is that there were very few studies in evidence of transfusion at all," Chatterjee said. "In our case, though, we found that the effect was pretty consistently harmful across the spectrum of studies, spectrum of time, and spectrum of patients that were enrolled in the individual studies."

Chatterjee said the study should not be taken to mean that transfusions should be stopped altogether for anemic heart attack patients. Instead, he said, doctors must continue exercising their clinical judgment, at least until results from a large, well-designed randomized trial can be produced. Mindful of the risk his study found, however, they might just want to shift their thinking about where the border is among borderline cases.

"Before a definitive trial is out there, we should be conservative, especially considering the high risk of harm," he said.

In addition to Chatterjee, the paper's other authors are Jorn Wetterslev of the Centre for Clinical Intervention Research in Copenhagen, Denmark; Abhishek Sharma and Edgar Lichstein of Maimonedes Medical Center; and Debabrata Mukherjee of Texas Tech University.

PFT: John Fox makes case for Peyton as NFL MVP

RexandTebowReuters

The day after multiple reports emerged that Jets quarterback Tim Tebow tapped out of the Wildcat package because he wasn?t picked to be the starter in Week 16, the effort continues to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

On Sunday, Tebow was asked why he didn?t appear in the alternative offense, which instead saw receiver Jeremy Kerley taking snaps.? ?It just kind of happens,? Tebow said.

On Monday, after multiple sources said that Tebow had specifically asked for it to happen after he was told he wouldn?t be starting, Tebow didn?t address the question of whether he had asked to be left out of the Wildcat package in an interview with ESPN?s Adam Schefter.

Now, coach Rex Ryan has tackled the topic while evading the one key piece of information in which everyone is interested.? According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Ryan chose not to share the details of his communications with Tebow.

And all that that implies.

?I?ve been transparent and all that stuff without question, but I?m not going to give you a private conversation that I would have with a player,? Ryan said in a conference call with reporters.? ?That?s between him and I.? If he wants to share whatever the conversation is ? Tim or anybody else ? that?s up to him.?

Ryan is treading on delicate ground, given that he and Tebow are both represented by the same agent, CAA?s Jimmy Sexton.? As a result, Ryan will say nothing publicly that damages Tebow?s carefully-cultivated team-first-team-only-thank-you-sir-may-I-have-another fa?ade.

?If I would have asked Tim to play in anything,? Ryan said.? ?Tim would have gone into the game and done that.?

Right.? If Ryan would have asked.? But that overlooks the question of whether Tebow had asked Ryan not to ask.

While some have suggested (including Peter King, in the video appearing below) that Tebow?s position was understandable given the manner in which he has been jerked around by the Jets, Tebow has tried for years to make us think that he?s the kind of guy who never would make such a request due to frustration regarding his role.? And for the Tebow skeptics out there who believe that much of who he is and what he is has been carefully orchestrated and manipulated, Sunday?s reports reflect the most significant and tangible proof that there?s a man behind the curtain who is far more flawed and far more human than the image that Tebow?s camp has been selling.

At this point, Tebow?s best move would be to admit it.

The best reputation management you have as a small business is customer service. One bad customer service experience can have huge repercussions in the age of social media. UPS discovered this the hard way.

A few years ago an incident like this could have gone months before the company saw any negative publicity ? if at all. But with social media, and everyone you know having accounts at all the major social media websites, you can bet that your customers will use it if they have to.

All you have to do to stop the social media negative PR campaigns before they start is provide good customer service. That doesn?t mean flawless execution of your service or flawless products. It means addressing concerns when they arise.

Once you sully your reputation it?s hard to get it back. That?s why you need to train all your employees on how to handle customer complaints when they happen. And be sure that no one drops the ball on any customer complaint. If you fail to do this one time, you could end up like UPS and have a video go viral, making your company look like it doesn?t care about its customers.

Social media is the great equalizer between customers and large businesses. What do you think it could do to a small business in a small town if this kind of thing happens to one of your customers?

Egypt constitution approved by voters, parties say - World News

Nasser Nasser / AP

An Egyptian election worker shows his colleagues an invalid ballot.

By NBC News staff and wire reports

CAIRO - A constitution drafted by an Islamist-dominated assembly was approved by a majority of Egyptians in a referendum, rival camps said on Sunday.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which propelled President Mohamed Mursi to power in a June election, said 64 percent of voters backed the charter after two rounds of voting that ended with a final ballot on Saturday. It cited an unofficial tally.

An opposition official also told Reuters their unofficial count showed the result was a "yes" vote.

Official results are not expected until Monday. If the outcome is confirmed, a parliamentary election will follow in about two months.

Mursi's Islamist backers say the constitution is vital for the transition to democracy, nearly two years after the overthrow of autocrat Hosni Mubarak in an uprising. It will provide stability needed to help a fragile economy, they say.

But the opposition accuses Mursi of pushing through a text that favors Islamists and ignores the rights of Christians, who make up about 10 percent of the population, as well as women. They say it is a recipe for further unrest.

"According to our calculations, the final result of the second round is 71 percent voting 'yes' and the overall result (of the two rounds) is 63.8 percent," a Brotherhood official, who was in an operations room monitoring the vote, told Reuters.

His figures were confirmed by a statement issued shortly afterwards by the group and broadcast on its television channel.

Regional news channel Al Jazeera also reported that early indications suggest the draft constitution will be approved.

"It appears at the moment that in the region of 68 per cent of voters have approved the draft constitution, some 32 percent have voted against," said reporter Mike Hanna in Cairo.

The Brotherhood and its party, as well as members of the opposition, had representatives monitoring polling stations and the vote count across the country.

The opposition said voting in both rounds was marred by abuses and had called for a re-run after the first stage. However, an official said the overall vote favored the charter.

"They (Islamists) are ruling the country, running the vote and influencing the people, so what else could we expect," the senior official from the main opposition coalition, the National Salvation Front, told Reuters.

Opponents of Egypt President Morsi say he's betraying the revolution, but his supporters say he wants to guarantee human rights with a controversial referendum on a new constitution. NBC's John Ray went onto the streets of Cairo to hear from both sides of the deepening divide.

The vote was split over two days as many judges had refused to supervise the ballot.

"I'm voting 'no' because Egypt can't be ruled by one faction," said Karim Nahas, 35, a stockbroker, heading to a polling station in Giza, in greater Cairo, in the last round.

At another polling station, some voters said they were more interested in ending Egypt's long period of political instability than in the Islamist aspects of the charter.

"We have to extend our hands to Mursi to help fix the country," said Hisham Kamal, an accountant.

The build-up to the vote witnessed deadly protests, sparked by Mursi's decision to award himself extra powers in a decree on November 22 and then to fast-track the constitution to a vote.

Hours before polls closed, Vice President Mahmoud Mekky announced his resignation. He said he wanted to quit last month but stayed on to help Mursi tackle the crisis that blew up when the Islamist leader assumed wide powers.

Mekky, a prominent judge who said he was uncomfortable in politics, disclosed earlier he had not been informed of Mursi's power grab. The timing of his resignation appeared linked to the lack of a vice-presidential post under the draft constitution.

The new basic law sets a limit of two four-year presidential terms. It says the principles of Islamist sharia law remain the main source of legislation but adds an article to explain this. It also says Islamic authorities will be consulted on sharia - a source of concern to Christians and others.

In the first round of voting last week, the district covering most of Cairo voted "no," which opponents said showed the depth of division.

"I see more unrest," said Ahmed Said, head of the liberal Free Egyptians Party and a member of the National Salvation Front, an opposition coalition formed after Mursi expanded his powers on November 22 and then pushed the constitution to a vote.

At least eight people were killed in protests outside the presidential palace in Cairo this month. Islamists and rivals clashed in Alexandria, the second-biggest city, on the eves of both voting days.

How to Ease Wrist Pains with Orthopedic Wrist Braces - Health Guide

Human hands are often ignored or taken for granted. After all it is just an appendage and accidents can?t be life threatening. Those who have suffered from accidents that resulted to injuries are the ones who understand the impact of having dysfunctional hands. Imagine the work that can?t be done.

Wrist injuries and pain are common because of many risks. Though there are treatments and helps available, it can reduce productivity. Orthopedic wrist braces are a big help to restore functionality. So, let us take a look at what it can do for you.

Understanding the Wrist

The wrist or carpal is made up of eight tiny bones that support a tube called the carpal tunnel. It has tendons and nerve, and is protected by a ligament to secure it. Even without injuries, repetitive motions can cause serious pain that can prove to be distracting when doing same motions. This is the carpal tunnel syndrome. Osteoporosis can also make the bones fragile that leads to fractures. The other common causes of pain include tendinitis, arthritis, sprains and strains as well as gout and pseudogout.

Treating wrist pain is difficult because diagnosing the causes can be complicated due to structural and biomechanical properties of the ulnar wrist. The advances in imaging techniques can provide invaluable help, but there are cases when even these can?t help too. Hence, doctors still go back to traditional methods like physical examination, radiography and, of course, history taking.

The Treatments for Wrist Pain

There are ways to treat wrist pain ? natural solutions (home solutions and lifestyle change) physical therapies, medication, and complementary alternative medicine (CAM). In severe cases of wrist pain, joint replacement therapy is considered when painful causes fail to respond to all the other treatments.

If the cause of the wrist pain is repetitive motions, the most obvious solution is avoidance of the said motion. This poses problem, however, when it is related to a job that people do. Bracing it up using bandage can help. A stiffer brace that your orthopedic doctor can prescribe is orthopedic wrist braces.

How Orthopedic Wrist Braces Work

While using natural solutions, medications, CAM and physical therapy, wrists need to be supported because you will continually use your hands. There is a wide range of supports or braces that you can use. Choosing the right brace is important to relieve the pain and at the same time to be able to continue using your hands to do work. What do you need to consider in choosing the right pair of braces?

? Pick lightweight, but durable material. It must be made of a material that can provide warmth, compression, and support. If you are into active sports, you need something that will provide maximum support. Getting a prescription and having it customized is a good solution.

? If you need a brace that must allow you to grasp and hold objects, check out those styles that can allow the kind of movement that you do most of the time. There are indeed many variations and styles available these days for about every need and use. Check these online for more information. Buying the right one the first time can save you money, time, and worsening wrist problem and pain.

? Check out the latest innovations with unique designs intended for special purposes. Some innovations have: a shape that keeps the wrist in an orthopedically correct angle, with strong and stiff outer layer that effectively compresses wrist bones; a form that ensure perfect fit, and an inner foam that absorbs moisture.

Who likes to be bothered with pain when doing work? It is most important for you to keep your wrist healthy with the right diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Nevertheless, when the use of your wrist is inevitably linked to a job, it may be more complicated. Using orthopedic wrist braces can prevent further wrist injuries and is just the right defense for you.
