Small Business PR Valentine's Ideas | Understanding Marketing

small_business_PRHere are the small business PR PITCH stories for the week of Feb. 13-18:

Whitney Houston - It will be difficult to find another story that will grab more headlines this week. Whitney Houston?s death was a shock to the entire world, her fans and the whole music industry. Whether we like it or not, whether we think it?s fair or not, the news media will cover this story for the next few weeks because of her celebrity status and the fact that there are so many unanswered questions. Those unanswered questions are where entrepreneurs come in to find their small business PR opportunity. Doctors, prescription drug experts, mental health doctors and even smaller outfits in the music industry will be called upon to provide expert insight into this story.

Greece?s Austerity Plan - The financial crisis in Greece and Europe continues to unfold before our eyes. Although an Austerity plan was formally approved in Greece, financial experts from all corners of the world will weigh in on what the situation means for global and local economies. Austerity itself is a topic that a lot of people aren?t very familiar with. Smaller financial professionals have a great opportunity to approach their local media and pitch a story on putting the austerity measures in perspective and talking about what, if any, ways it could impact their local community.

Valentine?s Day - It?s a day for lovers but it?s also become a celebration for single people, too. Date and relationship coaches, marriage experts, jewelers, florists, restaurant owners and of course chocolate makers/retailers all have a wonderful chance to get some small business PR this week. Valentine?s Day is always a media favorite because it breeds wonderful feature stories. Many times these stories are filled with smaller businesses that have unique angles to share.

60 Minutes Report & Cancer Doctor - Popular television news magazine show, 60 Minutes on CBS, produced a story uncovering Anil Potti, a doctor at Coastal Cancer Center. The story revolves around his research conducted at Duke University that was positioned as a breakthrough cancer research. His data showed a link between effective cancer treatments and a patient?s DNA. However, Duke University and 60 Minutes said Potti?s research was manipulated in order to match the results. Local doctors who have been studying this form of cancer should contact their news agencies and outlets to provide insight and offer explanations to put in perspective.
