Washington -- House Republicans will meet behind closed doors at 3 p.m. today to discuss immigration reform legislation as pressure mounts from some GOP members to act on a bill passed by the Senate.

The meeting comes a day after three leading conservatives wrote a letter to Boehner, urging the House to take up immigration reform and include a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants.

The letter was written by anti-tax activist Grover Norquist; former Syracuse University professor Douglas Holtz-Eakin, president of the American Action Forum; and American Conservative Union President Al Cardenas.

Former President George W. Bush also plans to speak about immigration today at his presidential center in Dallas. Bush has called for Congress to pass reforms, but he has not supported any specific legislation.

But Republicans are divided on the issue, with conservatives opposing the idea of creating a path to citizenship for some 11 million immigrants already in the United States. Rep. Michele Bachmann is among the GOP conservatives on a mission to kill the immigration overhaul, USA Today reports.
