Here are the top 5 tips for having a successful baby shower that everyone will love.

1. Have Some Great Food and Plenty of It

Your menu is not the place where you want to be skimpy; guest will often look forward to the food at a shower or party more than anything else. To save on costs, consider a buffet as it?s often more affordable to order pans of food rather than individual plates for a sit-down dinner. Shop well ahead of time so you can find the best places from which to order and can decide on the menu. Usually two main dishes such as chicken and pasta are sufficient, and then a few side dishes and desserts.

2. Decorate Your Venue

You don?t need to stick with the standard pink or blue and themes of storks and baby carriages, although these are fun if they appeal to you. Consider color choices of black and yellow, black and white, orange and brown, green and blue, or purple and pink. These can be a fun twist on your standard decorations and colors.

3. Plan Games or Activities

There are plenty of games you might try for a baby shower; word searches, guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar, or puzzle completions. You might also have paid entertainment for the crowd; a local band or singer is typically very affordable and they can provide great background music during your festivities. Some women even bring in male strippers for a baby shower, but of course this is up to your taste and discretion, keeping in mind all the visitors that might attend and their sensitivities.

4. Keep it Brief

When a shower drags on for hours, guests get bored and may also get antsy as the food runs out or they start thinking of their own family back home. It?s usually good to plan the shower around one mealtime and have it concluded before the next mealtime; for example, plan it at noon for lunch and end it at 4:00 so everyone heads home for dinner.

5. Do One Thing Original and New

When you add a personal touch to a baby shower, you make it more memorable. This might include a candy buffet or ice cream sundae buffet, a photo booth for pictures, or a comedic touch like a ?clumsy? waiter or other performer.

No matter what else you do for a baby shower, be sure the mother is comfortable with your plans and you respect her wishes. If she would rather not have a large crowd or is too tired to be around young children, tailor your guest list accordingly. She may also have a preference for the menu or activities involved, so check with her before finalizing all your arrangements.
